Joseph Ellicott (1760-1826) was an engineer and land agent. He began a survey of the Holland Land Purchase in 1797 and was local agent for the company from 1800-1820. Forty thousand acres south of the Phelps and Gorham Mill were deeded to Wilhem and Jan Willink.
